Description
Mercury(II) iodide is is used for preparation of Nessler's reagent, used for detection of presence of ammonia. It is a semiconductor material, used in some x-ray and gamma ray detection and imaging devices operating at room temperatures. In veterinary medicine, it is used in blister ointments in exostoses, bursal enlargement, etc.

L’iodure de mercure(II) est utilisé pour la préparation du réactif de Nessler′et pour détecter la présence d’ammoniac. Il s’agit d’un matériau semi-conducteur, utilisé dans certains appareils d’imagerie et de détection aux rayons X et gamma fonctionnant à température ambiante. En médecine vétérinaire, il est utilisé dans les onguents de blister contre les exostoses, la bursite, etc.
Solubilité
Insoluble dans l’eau. Légèrement soluble dans l’alcool, l’éther, l’acétone, le chloroforme, l’acétate d’éthyle, l’huile d’olive et l’huile de ricin.
Remarques
Sensible à la lumière. Conserver à l’abri des oxydants.
